“My care philosophy is to care for each patient as if they are my family member. I strive to deliver the most up to date, safe and effective treatment plan for every patient that I see, tailored for each patient’s health and life circumstances, working closely with the patient and their broader health care team.”

My Care Philosophy

I strive to provide the best radiation oncology care to each of my patients. I accomplish this by treating each patient as though they were my own family. During each visit I pay close attention to my patients’ symptoms and concerns to ensure that I understand what is important to them during treatment, and beyond. I begin by performing a comprehensive, detailed review of each patient’s medical and cancer history, imaging and pathology results. The patient and I then work together to formulate an individually tailored treatment plan based on the latest in oncology protocols. I also work closely with other members of my patients’ care teams to ensure a seamless journey across specialties and deliver the best in multidisciplinary cancer treatment. I am honored to partner with my patients in their care.

About Me

I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, completed an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Princeton University, followed by the combined MD PhD program at the University of Pennsylvania, with graduate studies in biochemistry and molecular biophysics. I was drawn to oncology early in my medical training and found a calling in radiation oncology which combined my passion for cancer care with my extensive physical science training. I completed residency in radiation oncology at the University of California, San Francisco and was thrilled to join the physicians of Bellingham Radiation Oncology in 2016. Outside of clinic, my passions are exploring our beautiful outdoor setting on trails, snow, and water, playing piano, jazz music, photography and spending time with my children and family. I speak conversational Spanish and French and am fluent in Russian.

“A cancer diagnosis can be terrifying and life changing. My philosophy is to help patients and families understand their cancer diagnosis and treatment options. I believe that through cutting edge technology, education, knowledge and excellent communication between the physician, patient and family, we can manage the fear of cancer and achieve the best possible outcomes.”

My Care Philosophy

I believe that knowledge is power, and communication is essential. Each patient situation from symptoms, to evaluation, to cancer biology, to family and life situation is unique. My approach is to understand your medical history, current symptoms, and social situation. I then work with you to devise a treatment plan that matches your cancer situation and goals with the best available treatment. I believe patients and physicians work better as a team. Having practiced oncology in Whatcom County for almost 14 years, I have developed extensive networks with other cancer specialists in our community and throughout Western Washington. I can work with you to assure multidisciplinary care with access to both local providers and highly specialized services in Seattle and beyond.

About Me

I grew up in Idaho exploring the rivers and lakes around Coeur d’Alene and never missed a chance to cast a fly rod. My education was spent in Western Washington, attending college at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, where I majored in biology, and then Medical School at the University of Washington. My medical career initially started in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento, CA. After a year in Internal Medicine, I realized radiation oncology was my calling and spent a year doing research before entering residency, also at UCDavis. Knowing I wanted to return to Western Washington with my wife, Erin, to start our family, I joined Bellingham Radiation Oncology in 2008. I have served as the medical director for radiation oncology at the St Joseph Medical Center PeaceHealth Integrated cancer center for over 10 years, helping to develop numerous programs and advance cancer care in our community. I am thrilled to be part of North Cascade Cancer Center, which I believe represents the evolution in cancer care in Whatcom County with improved access to care, advanced technology and a return to community-based oncology. My wife, daughters, and I are proud to call Bellingham home and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

“A cancer diagnosis changes life from that point on. There is so much to think about and do. It helps if your cancer doctor takes the time to both listen to questions and to explain treatment options in clear terms. Modern treatment may be quick and almost side effect free but some situations still present a major challenge and patients need an experienced, compassionate team to optimize their care.”

My Care Philosophy

Patients reward their caregivers by sharing one of, if not the most, intense time of their lives. I am honored to be there with them and ease their path through treatment while delivering the best care our specialty can provide.

I treat people as I would want to be treated – with respect, kindness, honesty and optimal treatment design. Our specialty has evolved to use highly sophisticated image management, planning, and delivery systems allowing careful and thoughtful practitioners to sculp radiation treatment like never before. I focus on maximizing tumor control while designing treatment to preserve normal function as much as possible. This balance reflects three decades of experience crafting treatment volumes and delivery plans. I love this continually improving component of radiation therapy.

Modern cancer care takes close collaboration between the whole team of physicians and caregivers to achieve the best outcome for patients. I value my partners and colleagues’ contributions and expertise

About Me

I grew up and went to school in Virginia, trained in Chicago, attended at City of Hope, then found where the Mountains lean over the bay. My professional life has included leadership positions in Medical Staff, Cancer Program Development as Medical Director and Chairman for many years, and Research as Lead Investigator but helping patients directly remains my greatest professional satisfaction. Sharing life’s adventures with my children and friends fills those hours not spent at the clinic. There is so much to see and do in this amazing world. I enjoy dancing with gravity on skis, snowboard, or mountain bike and love good conversation with friends after time on the hill.
