Heterotopic Ossification Prophylaxis

A single treatment of radiation given the day before surgery helps prevent heterotopic ossification. Some patient form bits of bone in the local soft tissue in response to trauma such as hip replacement surgery. There are now several ways to limit more of this unwanted and function limiting bone formation but preoperative radiation remains an effective option for challenging cases.
